MCF-7-luc-F5 Bioware® Cell Line

Overview

The MCF-7-luc-F5 Bioware® Cell Line (P/N 119262) is a light producing cell line derived from MCF-7 human mammary adenocarcinoma cells by stable transfection of the North American Firefly Luciferase gene expressed from the CMV promoter. Selection marker: Neomycin (G418 Sensitivity: 0.4 mg/ml).

Tissue: Human: adenocarcinoma, mammary gland

Parental Line Source: American Type Culture Collection

Bioluminescence In Vitro: approx. 700 photons/sec/cell, subject to imaging and culturing conditions

In Vivo Models Tested:
Nude-beige (Harlan): mammary fat pad with lung metastasis
Nu/nu (CR): mammary fat pad

Applications

The MCF-7-luc-F5 Bioware® Cell Line (P/N 119262) can be used in vivo to establish estrogen dependent tumor growth in mammary fat pad orthotopic model and mammary fat pad with lung metastasis. Bioluminescent imaging detected tumor cells throughout the experiment; measurable tumors may be calipered after two weeks of orthotopic growth. Estrogen supplementation is required if MCF-7-luc-F5 cells are to grow in vivo. Biophotonic in vivo imaging revealed metastases in the thoracic region; endpoint ex vivo imaging confirmed metastases in lung, forelimb, and brachial lymph node.
