Light Producing Plasmids (Bioware®)

Caliper currently offers two plasmids that can be used to bioluminescently engineer a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Both plasmids contain a five gene Photorhabdus luminescens lux operon that allows recipient bacteria to produce light with a peak emission of approximately 480 nm (blue-green light). Bioluminescence produced by lux engineered bacteria is optimal at 37°C and there is no requirement for exogenous aldehyde substrate to be added for the generation of this light, making these plasmids ideal for the transformation of pathogenic bacterial that can be monitored and tracked non-invasively in living animals using one of Caliper’s IVIS Imaging Systems.
